Transition to a self-governing republic
There are people who want to stand by the Queen and the Commonwealth, and there are others who think we should separate from the queen and become our own, self-governed, nation. People who have migrated from England might prefer to stay a part of the Commonwealth for traditional reasons. Whereas many Australians would like to be independent. The reasons for preferring a monarchy or republic varies throughout different social classes, however, a republic is more popular with liberals and immigrants.
Staying aligned to the royal family is a more conservative view, because they like to keep things the way they are. However liberals often like change, and are not normally fans of being ruled by a Queen who does not actually make any laws.
